Weight Loss Medication:
At your virtual appointment your doctor will work with you to determine what medications are indicated to assist you in your weight loss journey.
A Rx for medication will be sent to the pharmacy at your first visit unless more information is needed to determine if medication is appropriate and safe for you.
Insurance and Prescription Medication
-If medication is covered by your insurance a prescription will be sent to their usual pharmacy. The patient will be encouraged to access a savings card from the drug manufacturing company of the medication. Please note that your insurance may require prior authorization of your medication and this may take 1-2 weeks to complete.
-If there is no, or inadequate, insurance coverage for your medication then a compounding pharmacy can be used to access medication therapy. When obtaining medications from a compounding pharmacy the medication is shipped directly to the patient. This takes approximately a week to arrive. Medication costs are not included in the cost of the visit. This is often cheaper for patients then with other programs that include the cost of the medication with the visit. Medication is purchased from the compounding pharmacy and the compounding pharmacy will contact the patient for billing information. Medication cost depends on dosing. Once using a full dose of medication, the cost is expected to be about $200/month, but this cost is much less when on the initial lower doses.
